1 So, my mains'l was pretty much blown out, and I found myself repairing it almost every time I was out. Then my friend Hank donated his old main off his larger 32' Paceship. It was old, but in better shape than mine. More importantly, most of the critical dimensions matched; the foot was the same length, the outhaul slug and footrope matched the boom and the slugs matched the mast. But it was about 2' longer. So I stretched the two sails out between three trees and took a magic marker to Hank's. Five minutes with some sissors, two hours with a seam ripper (to get the batten pockets off) and it was ready for some sewing.
2 A few hours a night in the basement for a couple of weeks to finish the cut edge, add a headboard, add some batten pockets and ta-da, a newer mainsail.
